My Tribe jacket (semi-repeat of THIS outfit from 2011, similar jacket), Von Vonni skirt via Ideeli (similar in various colors), Zara top (similar f21 in black), LOFT clutch (last worn here, here, here)
My last outfit post from chilly San Francisco. I wore mostly flat shoes and casual clothing for my trip but decided to dress up for fancy dinner during one of my last days there.
I love leather jackets in fall/winter weather...so much so that I might save up for when this (hopefully) goes on sale. This skirt is so long that me being 5'9" and in heels didn't stop it from slightly touching the ground...whenever I have time I'm going to have to tailor this.
----------------------------------------------------
Even though I've lived in NYC since July 1st (minus the brief trip back home and to SF), the reality that I'm here to stay for school still hasn't hit me. While there's so much excitement associated with these changes, there are also little moments of fear. Back in Austin, my family and friends have always been my safety net. This time, in this big city, it's just me. I felt tinges of jealousy when I saw other students moving in with the financial (and muscle) aid of their families...until I realized moments later that this was what I wanted. I wanted to challenge myself by moving far, far away. Also, I knew my parents were right in that they shouldn't have to pay for any part of my expenses now that I'm an adult.
As some of you may have noticed, I have been sharing a bit more personal details on this blog lately. I stopped doing so after my blog was featured by UT publications; I felt weird knowing that my professors and fellow classmates could easily find and read my blog. After hearing a few requests for me to document my transition to NYC, I decided to be more open again. I hope you like this new direction.

  4. A big move like that is definitely exciting, but will also bring fear for sure. Congrats for taking that big step. I must say, this might be one of my favourite outfits ever...not just on your blog, but on any blog! I am so in love with that skirt and top, and the jacket is the perfect finishing touch. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE!

  5. I felt that way when I first entered college. I had to move alone, my parents did not at all help and in fact discouraged me from going to college. So I had to take out my own loans and am supporting myself. It's hard but it's worth it.

    1. Wow, I can't imagine what that must have been like...my parents have always been supportive of my advancements in education. They are still supportive of law school; they just think it's time for me to take care of myself.

  8. I admire you for packing up and moving cross country. I always say I'm gutsy enough to pack up and leave Las Vegas, but I haven't yet found the bravery to do so. I am hoping it comes in my 30s.

    1. Aw wow thank you Nicole! Right now I'm trying to focus on getting ready for law school and also trying to not spend much money going out (so poor from moving) but I am SURE I will get sick of studying/bored/lonely sooner or later! I will keep your invitation in mind.

  13. Hi Diya! If you don't mind me asking, what convinced you to go from engineering to law? Just curious, since I'm an engineering major too. :)

    1. Hey! I did a post on my decision and how scary it was here: http://www.diyainherstilettos.com/2012/07/thoughts-announcements-gratitude.html

...but basically I felt like engineering wasn't the perfect fit for me and I thought Fashion Intellectual Property Law would be a better fit (let's hope I'm right!). Plus, Fashion IP would not waste my engineering background since taking the Patent Bar would require a science or engineering degree.

    1. Yeah, I know it's not SUPPOSED to be a big deal that my parents aren't supporting me because it's quite common...but still it felt weird seeing other parents shell out money and help with my classmates' moves. For clarification, I think my parents absolutely did the right thing and I'm not expressing dismay/entitlement a la Hannah from the show Girls.

:) hope you'll visit me soon, Shella!
