(I'm wearing black bike shorts underneath.) Sorry for the grainy pictures; the sunlight was almost nonexistent when the first two pictures were taken and harsh tungsten light was the best I had.
This skirt is definitely not for the meek but it fits in perfectly with the rest of my crazy wardrobe. I think I have way too many garments adorned with beads, feathers, sequins, lace, and crochet to NOT be doomed as a crazy cat lady in a few decades.
------------------------------------------------------
There's a billion actual feather skirt tutorials out on the internet (for example) so my instructions are very brief. I basically just cut the thrifted pencil skirt two inches longer than the desired hem length, hemmed the skirt, sewed the first layer of feather trim on the edge of the hem, and then sewed three more layers of feather trim parallel to the hem on top of that.
(My sewing/DIY skills are very rusty so the skirt's not exactly a masterpiece but I think the long feathers hides some of the lack of craftsmanship.)
Helpful hints:
-I suggest using a hot glue gun to go over where you attached the feather trims so the feathers are more firmly attached. Otherwise you will shed more than your cat.
-A skirt that is NOT made of a stretchy material will work best in this project since the ribbon on the feather trim does not stretch.

Typing up this post made me reminisce circa 2007-2009 when there was no division between fashion blogs and DIY (fashion) blogs because practically every single fashion blogger that existed enjoyed  shredding, studding, spiking, sewing, altering, and trimming clothes.
