I love this dress but like all bodycon dresses on me, it's just a tiny bit too short for me to wear without something on the bottom, which is probably why I wear this dress more during the colder days. Being 5'9" and curvy sucks in terms of finding stuff at the right length. Maxi's aren't exactly floor-length but instead an awkward ankle length and mini's are way too short. Anyone else have the same problem?
One consequence of packing last minute for an stay that's three weeks long is jewelry being stuffed haphazardly and therefore effectively missing. I rediscovered some rings lying in a remote pocket from one of my luggage bags today.
I'm antsy. I actually secretly wish the semester would start back up so I can feel a bit more purposeful. Doodling and playing games all day is getting boring...although I do like being able to sleep and eat more regularly. Do don't MATH, kids. Stay away from engineering ;).

  2. I love the whole outfit and the jewelry! And I totally understand the engineering thing. I'm not in engineering but my fiance is a Electrical/Computer engineer at UT too!

  3. brittney: ahhh electrical engineering... that's tough! I have to take one EE course on circuits this coming semester and I'm NOT looking forward to it!

  4. You look really cute!! Anyway, I'm 5'5" and some maxi even fell short for me, I feel like some stores like F21 and Victoria secret are more designs for petite and skinny girls nowadays, every outfit that I look at the model online with knee length will get me to a mini length that I can barely get my ass cover. Then I decided to go to a more designer stuff, and all of them are way to long for me :-( the joy of being in an awkward heights

  5. angga: too true!!! although I wonder if they make an especially long dress/skirt for the model since the model's probably pretty tall???

  6. Im 5'8 and have the same problem, so I constantly wear tights. I didn't even think I was that tall but I barely get coverage :|

  7. Wow...I love how you combined the two scarves!
    I'm 5'3", so I don't even look at maxis. :(

  8. anon: apparently the average female height in the U.S. is around 5'5"?

  9. I love the layered scarves! Very cool! And love the gray pumps, too! I sometimes have that problem - I'm not overly tall (I'm 5'6) but it must be due to my proportions, as things seem very short in the back on me! So frustrating when you find a dress you love, only to realize you can't really wear it as a dress! Been there a million times!

  10. Your jewelery is amazing!
Where do you get things like the snake ring and claw cuff?

    ReplyDelete
  11. claw cuff: asos. snake ring: ebay (i think? I've had it for over a year...)

  12. I am 5'8" so I have the same problems. Mini skirts are the hardest to find. Tights are a must :)
    Love the scarf! :)

  17. This outfit is so perfect! This might sound silly but I feel like I have seen you before? Like on TV or some other pictures? Have you done anything like acting or modeling? xx

  18. I love your twisted scarves.

As for dresses, I have the opposite problem. There must someone out there who is "average" height. :-)

  24. I tried to talk my son out of EE but he would have none of it. He made it through but your warning should be seriously considered because many don't and it was not a happy time. Still don't know if it was worth it.

  25. PFfft. Your body looks great in this outfit!
    I wish I had your height too. :P I'm only 5'5".
I love this outfit. Very autumn-ish, but I guess since you live in Texas you can't be fully winterized.

  26. unfortunately, my problem is the opposite..i'm only 5'2" so maxis tend to be longer..and i always have to have my jeans shortened..haha!

love the layered scarves with their different textures.

  27. Oh what a simple yet great idea of combining the scarfs. I"ll try this at home.

    ReplyDelete
  28. i don't think it's the height that's the problem, it might just be the curves. I mean, i'm about 5'6" which isn't that tall so theoretically everything should fit on me but i've got more dangerous curves than the rocky mountains and an ass the size of alaska so all minis look short on me

  29. anon: yes engineering is MUCH HARDER than most people realize when they go into the major. It's not just "math and a different form of science." It's much more. The dropout rate and the packed chemical engineering computer labs when I leave CPE at MIDNIGHT say it all.

Yinmei: it might be! I'm 36D and an ass as well so that probably doesn't help.

  32. Ha, I am so enjoying this break from school...mostly because I haven't been able to do any real major specific courses the last semester or so...it's mostly been full of chemistry (I loathe).

Love those scarfs by the way, they look soooo warm!

  33. You look amazing. I adore the usage of the scarves. Definitely inspirational. Loveee.

  37. I have the same ASOS claw bracelet, it's such a great piece!

I'm so happy to see another tall girl rocking heels. I'm 5ft10 and I'm still trying to get up the confidence to wear them because I feel so awkwardly tall towering over everyone. Do you get many looks going out wearing heels?

Also, I saw those grey heels at F21 but was worried they'd be SO uncomfortable to wear because they're so cheap. How do you find them?

    ReplyDelete
  38. Megan: I wear heels all the time outside of research and classrooms...grocery shopping, eating out, etc. I think the trick is to have a bf that is at least 4 or more inches taller than you! Then it doesn't look so weird.

as for the heels, they're harder to walk in because the sole does not bend as you take a step in them like stiletto pumps do (if that makes sense) but I do not find the shoe itself to hurt my feet any more than any of the other faux leather shoes. There are shoes I don't wear when i plan on walking at all but these are fine.

  39. i love this!!! you are so pretty.

  40. I love the rings. So neat looking. I'm pretty short so everything is just long on me x__x which sucks doubly because it means it's harder to shop at mainstream stores. Oh well!

    Happy New Year!

  42. girl, you have an amazing style! love your accessories!!!

  43. Thanks Diya! Unfortunately my boyfriend and I are the same height, so while he thinks heels are sexy....he looks so torn when I wear them and he has to look up at me!

    ReplyDelete
  44. megan: men! I've never had a problem with towering over a guy I'm on a date with but that never seemed to go over well with them! I once had a boyfriend that went through the trouble of asking his mom if they can get a pair of cowboy boots (which has a slight heel) for him so he doesn't look so short when I wore heels...

So I don't know what to recommend except I think you should wear whatever makes YOU feel great! I know I'm more pleasant to be around when I feel good about how I look...and I feel the best when I'm in heels!

  45. I love the 2 scaves together! I might have to send you one of the scarves I knit to add to your wardrobe. By the way your outfits are amazing! Thanks for sharing.
