Some pictures we took today... I mainly dressed for comfort but I wanted to show this cute jacket I got for $10ish off of etsy last winter but never got to wear. I'm 99% sure it's not real leather but I still love it.
I tried to take some pictures of our beautiful photo location but none of them turned out the way I imagined it to in my head...there's something about that wire gate dipping into the serene water that just fascinates me.
Just letting off a little rant here: I keep getting press releases about events in the middle of the weekdays and/or requiring an entry fee of around $80...and then people wondering why I don't show up. Well, I'm kind of in school, working 2 jobs so I don't really have much free time...and if I've got $80 it's going to slightly more dire things like electric bills, textbooks, new laptop, and food. The only events I really miss are the blogger get-togethers that I've always enjoyed, but I just really don't have the time or energy to even attend those right now. Thankfully Christmas break is around the corner....
PS. I read you guys' comments in the post from earlier today and now I'm obsessed with the idea of going to the craft store to buy elbow patches and sewing them on every sweater/blazer I own...boyfriend thinks I'm crazy and maybe he's right. Maybe it's the engineering geekiness slowly seeping in...pretty soon I'm going to start thinking pocket protectors are SEXY. Maybe?

layering...pt 2
asos scarf, thrifted blazer, urban outfitters skirt, thrifted blouse, forever 21 shoes
(Oops so I never posted this even though it was from a while back) So the second installment of how I wore this blouse/skirt combo. I wore the first version initially until I thrifted this amazing old-school prep blazer, which inspired a change in jacket/accessories. The only thing that could have made this blazer better would have been little elbow patches...I've been looking for a blazer like so for a while now. If anyone finds something of the sort PLEASE share with me!

I am determined to learn all about exposure/aperture/whatnot today...tired of my pictures turning out blurry. I'm also going to try to thrift more often. I've got to start saving money for a laptop! I think the key here is to stop browsing Topshop, Asos or Etsy constantly... and therefore less temptation. However, the fact that I don't get off from work/school until way late in the evening (I had to go back to research to finish the last step at 2AM on Thursday night) and the fact that I do not have a car kind of makes thrifting difficult.

clashing colors
DIY brocade skirt, forever 21 sweater, amrita singh necklace, thrifted michael kors shoes, london fog bag via overstock.com
So these were the Michael Kors shoes I thrifted (and mentioned earlier in a blog post)...aren't they amazing? Brand new and found at Savers for $25...the thrifting gods were obviously with me that day because not only did I find this pair of shoes but also found a faux leopard fur vest for J., my thrifting partner-in-crime, for $15. I know that this outfit didn't reallllly match with the shoes but I had to freaking wear them! I had to....
In the process of editing my close I realized how much "repeats" I have... as in I have 3 gold brocade coats and a bunch of random useless stuff that I've squirreled away for no good reason. The brocade stuff are here to stay but I might be making a gigantic donation to Savers or Goodwill pretty soon.
I won't be typing much today as I'm kind of behind on my school-related stuff for this week! I still have around six chapters to read for analytical chemistry and I still have to figure out the polymath code for my reactor course. Gross...wish me luck!

an autumn palette
thrifted blazer, thrifted blouse, charlotte russe skirt, bakers boots
I wore this outfit earlier in the day with a chunky knit cardi (will have pics up later) but decided to wear this blazer out instead for a slightly dressier night time look. The bipolar weather here has gotten me all confused in what to expect that day...warm 70-80s one day and 50's the next. One good thing is that I FINALLY organized my closet this weekend! It took moving all of my coats/blazers into another walk-in closet of their own (yeah...I know) and many trips to Target to get hangers/storage bins but I can finally see what I have for the first time since...ever. I've never been an organized person but my built-up annoyance with never finding a particular skirt or shoe drove me to now own one of the most organized closets ever.
I didn't intend the background colors of the leaves to be the same exact color palette as my outfit...the leaves don't even look that pretty in real life but somehow that's what the lens produced in the barely-there lighting at 6 PM. Funny how that happens...
I ended up not doing ANY of the shit I was supposed to do this weekend so I'll be up late typing lab reports and studying in addition to 15-20 hrs of research this week..crap. Although in the words of one of my guy friends from high school, "if you do it the last minute, it only TAKES one minute." He's now at Harvard so it must have worked for him, right? Hah.

So some of you guys might have seen it first on twitter but I got a new lens after a comment-section discussion with Anna and Aggie. I made a few silly faces while we're taking the pictures and they're quite..."amusing." I might make a facebook album with outtakes from every photoshoot we've done...hrm.
Yeah we're still learning how to focus the camera properly buuuut these will suffice for now.
I'm not going to talk much this weekend since I've got to study for an analytical chemistry exam, grade some papers, and do a lab report. I hope everyone's having a good weekend!

shadows fall

(So the title has nothing to do with the metal band but they are pretty freaking awesome)
This was taken this past weekend but I never posted it since I wasn't really sure about the combination...BUT I decided in the end I took the the photos for it so why the heck not? This is definitely more colors in one outfit than I would usually wear but I'm trying to change that. I'm collecting more colorful sweaters/jackets this fall/winter when I go thrifting. Speaking of thrifting, Savers had a 50% off all clothing/shoes/accessories sale today and I could resist. Shout out to Joyce who actually got up to get the brand new pair of Michael Kors shoes I've been eyeing at 7AM today. They were $50 last night when we went thrifting so I decided to wait for today's discount. I also was extremely proud of handing over a gorgeous faux leopard fur vest and sheer cream blouse to her instead of snatching them.

I just talked to a couple people and realized academia or research & development aren't for an absent-minded goofball like me...
