Everything's from forever21.
The forever21's contest on chictopia basically wants a picture of me wearing forever21 stuff and carrying a sign of who's my sweetheart. Therefore these embarassingly cheesy pictures of me strutting around the land in front of my bf's house carrying a sign. I figured I'll post some outtakes so you gals/guys can have a chuckle at my cheesy smile in some of these. Here's how I described my message on chictopia:
"The sign I’ve made is a mix of simple, childish and playful…much like my relationship with my bf. When we’re together, our combined age is probably not even 10 and we giggle at fart jokes and make pictures out of food on our plates."
Anyway, the other pictures are of pictures randomly taken throughout the day... and of example food faces I've made in the past. Heh. First one is a random one made at a fancy steak restaurant (heh), next is my depiction of my bf Tim, and the last one is of the ummm hand gestures Tim made today while we're at the BBQ. Two most commonly used hand gestures used in rock n' roll. Speaking of BBQ, that sign in the front of the restaurant is awesome (probably offensive to some vegetarians/vegans so sorry in advance).

UPDATE:
A. Nuheila tagged me to list 10 things that make me happy (and try to do them today, I definitely already plan on doing 2 and I've done 1):
  1. stilettos/fashion in general: this one's kind of a no brainer due to my blog title. Dressing up makes me feel accomplished and makes my day ten times better no matter how awesome or shitty the day went.
  2. chemistry: I'm a chemical engineering/biochemistry double major, so I have to like it, or else I wouldn't be able to tolerate taking semester after semester of only science/math courses. Doing transport phenomena problems make me calm... math/science might still not be 100% black and white but it is so much more objective than most things. 1 +1 always equals 2, and that is soothing to me.
  3. peanut butter: it's my favorite food of all time. It's usually the first thing that comes to mind when certain friends of mine (they are probably reading this post) talk about me. I already "did" this one today (I eat it every morning).
  4. art: I love drawing... I took a fashion illustration class and I love to just doodle but I'm not that great at it.
  5. music: I can't believe this came after peanut butter but um I listen to music 24/7... I love everything, from chinese/russian/indian/south american/U.S./british pop to classical strings (I play the violin) to rap mixtapes (I prefer dirty south and hyphy style rap) to alternative/indie/hard rock to metal to arabic trance to salsa/merenge/reggaeton. I help my bf with his record company, so liking music is crucial.
  6. internet: youtube, facebook, blogging, online comics (xkcd, cyanide and happiness), funny videos in general.
  7. baking: I looooove baked goods! My favorite are really gooey/chewy/underbaked cookies with some kind of chocolate chips in them but I love it all. Screw it I just enjoy EATING in general. As I'm typing I'm munching on honey nut cheerios.
  8. revolutions throughout history: not that millions of dying people make me happy but I am fascinated with reading about them.
  9. my siblings: they're aged 6 and 9... and I love them to death.
  10. my bf!!!! This one's also a no brainer. I mean, if anything just scroll up and read about what I wrote on our relationship in the second paragraph. When I look at this list of things that make me happy, he likes a lot of those same things too. He's intelligent (he's a really awesome lawyer), he's a metalhead (so we clash on music stuff sometimes since he doesn't really like his truck to be playing taylor swift music but we understand each other's obsessions with music), he used to run a jewelry business with his dad and his mom is an artist so he appreciates art, he loves the exact same kind of dessert as I do (and loves pb almost like I do), he loves science shows like "how it's made" and "timewarp," and he loves immature jokes. He's also the super awesome photographer responsible for taking my pictures and actually being the first person in history to make me smile naturally for photographs.
B. I got my first blog award from Gizelle. Thanks! For both I am way too lazy to tag people... I have trouble keeping up with responding to commenters already. I'm afraid I'm not cut out for this blogging thing haha. ;)

I thought we failed at doing justice to capturing the coolness of the flooded Texan plains so I took additional shots of it without me in them...
So this was actually a 70's dress bought on etsy that I've cropped ((vintage purists are going to hate me) to a mini length... worn here as a blouse. I know there's a huge run down these polka dot tights (and I've ordered more on the way) but I actually kinda like that one imperfect detail...
Thanks to everyone for helping me out with lodgings/restaurants in NYC. Also thanks for exchanging links! I will be updating links either later tonight or tomorrow. Also, a huge thanks to budgetbabe for twittering about my blog!

nothing special here… one of those outfits I wear when I can’t think of anything creative. I got this dress from the clearance rack at Buffalo Exchange for $12 and never looked back. Here's also some random photos I took this week.
On the bright side. I'M ATTENDING NY FASHION WEEK. Anyone else going? Any suggested restaurants, shops, hotels, clubs, etc? Any good chinese food in Chinatown? ;) Any good bakeries (my bf and I are a huge fan of peanut butter and chocolate)?

so this is part 2 of the experimentation with the slip "dress" (also seen HERE). These pictures are taken right outside my boyfriend's house... in the land that his family has owned for at least 4 generations. So beautiful, right? I get to spend my weekends there... and thanks to the stars aligning or something, this semester I only have classes TWTH... and one optional TA session on Monday! :) That means either 3 or 4 day weekends for other projects... ones related to music and fashion of course.
Tonight, I went to check out our friends' band Broken Teeth (with members of Dangerous Toys and Dirty Looks)  with the new bass guitarist... they were playing with Anvil, if anyone cares (I'm not a fan of Anvil so we left after our friends finished playing). Anyway, it's to bed for me so I can be awake for the Materials quiz on crystal lattice structures at 8AM tomorrow. FUN!
Let me know if you would like to exchange links! :) I will get back to all the comments after the hectic day tomorrow.
oh, here's some music by one of my bf's friends.

This dress is probably my favorite floral number. Bought on sale from asos two years back, I've probably worn it at least once (probably more like twice) a month since then regardless of the season. In the winter, I'll pair it with my favorite coat (seen HERE) or this leather jacket. During warmer months, it's the perfect companion to either grab at 8am in the morning when I'm running late for classes or for frolicking around Austin. This outfit isn't anything mindblowing but it's kind of my uniform for these braindead days since I'm really really tired today from last night's show. Just updated links for you awesome people who wanted to exchange links with me, tell me if I missed your blog or if you would like to help me out by exchanging links!

lace and slips

pics taken throughout today (yeah, this is my bf's house)...

So the "dress" is not really a dress... it's the slip from under the lipsy dress in THIS post. The scarf is also not a scarf... it's a piece of black lace I picked up on etsy and wanted to decorate my room with but never found the spot for. Anyway, this slip seems to be pretty versatile (and so shiny and soft to the touch!) so I'm in love with my "new" dress. Expect more posts including it very soon. I was so proud to pack 5 days' worth of outfits in one carry-on-sized hand bag (along with jewelry and 2 pairs of shoes). Somehow this outfit seems to be really attention-getting and when I dropped into a little Mexican restraurant in San Saba (TX) with my bf every single cowboy seemed to be staring. Yes, I said cowboys. Today must have been the annual cowboy conference or something because I swear I saw around 30 authentic cowboys crowed into one tiny restaurant. I knotted the pearls once again since that's my favorite way to wear them... and I really need new black pumps since I keep wearing these. Any suggestions?? I also seem to be very boring in the purse department... black leather and zipper/stud/buckles details get me every time.

"dress": lipsy (see above description), "scarf": etsy (see above), pearls: ebay, shoes: lulus, purse: overstock.com.

So this is my take on preppy. This isn’t really my style as of late, since I’ve been more into darker colors or floral dresses. However, the newly bought f21 shorts inspired me to pull together a preppier look. Since my bf is now reading this blog I decided to honor him by featuring one of his favorite bands. The genre is hard rock, to warn non-rock fans in advance. He met them while they were on tour.

This is probably the first thing I ever made that I'm able to wear around without looking like a big art project failure. I'm so proud of it... even though it took me around 3 hrs to make it (damn freaking brocade fabric doesn't like to be ironed very well). The pictures suck since we didn't get to take the pictures until the sun was almost down and so we hurried up to the rooftop garage of my apartment to get some decent lighting. I will never underestimate the skills of a seamstress ever again. I also seem to be in the habit of wearing a bunch of f21 stuff. I swear my closet is like 50% f21, 25% modcloth/asos/topshop/lulus, and 25% vintage. That's probably because there's no H&M or Zara near my grasp. Anyone want to ship me that leather zara jacket? I need it in my life.

so it's back to those engineering classes... fun stuff. I might come up with a more interesting post soonish but for now it's going back to what I feel most comfortable in: neutral colors and poufy silhouettes. I also have a gross habit of wearing the same damn pair of shoes for a whole month before I wear out the heel taps and then I'll find a replacement pair. When I have about 10 pairs of worn down heels is when I actually take them to the shoe cobbler and get new heel taps. Anyone know where to purchase heel taps and how to install them yourself?
Skirt also seen worn HERE

oh and the video of the day is inspired by my outfit....one of my all time favorite Muse songs.

First song post

since dating someone in the music industry I've become increasingly aware of how music and fashion go hand in hand. Therefore, here's a music post. British band 13 Senses might be a familiar voice in the UK, but relatively unheard of elsewhere, even here in the U.S. I've always loved this song for its syncopation, mellow repetition, poetic lyrics, and beautiful piano/guitar opposing themes.

what I wore yesterday during the day and what I wore today. I decided to wear an all black-and-silver outfit as a nod to my bf's hobby/2nd job as a producer in the metal music industry. Not all that inspirational but I think the pictures turned out pretty. For today, I decided to pull on one of my favorite floral dresses because I was lazy and I've decided to wear something other than black, grey, nude, and white.
