vintage dress, forever 21 scarf, colin stuart heels, vintage leaf pendant
This dress was a hidden gem under a large pile of cheesy asian-inspired shirts and dusty daydresses at the Austin City Wide Garage Sale. Best $8 I've spent on clothes in a while. I almost didn't get it because there was obviously no changing rooms and I wasn't in an outfit that let me try it on over/under clothes. I like this dress because I'm pretty sure no one else loves it like I do and everyone else probably will think it's absolutely ridiculous...but I think it's amazingly sexy in an understated sort of way. Showing off my collarbones and shoulders and covering everything else up makes me feel just a little bit glamorous.
I haven't been into blogging lately because it's always "what will the blogosphere like to see me in" instead of "what is good for my own creative soul"...and that train of thought will ultimately result in the declaration that there is absolutely nothing to wear that's good enough and I end up not posting. I've finally decided that no matter what I try, I'll always end up looking not on-trend but more...quaint.
As for the gold-dipped leaf...I've been on the lookout for the perfect gold maple leaf pendant and finally I've found it! I've got a fascination with leaves jewelry for a while now and I can't wait to find the perfect chain for this beauty.
In other facets of life, I'll be spending the next few days getting ready for a research presentation, spending time studying for courses' exams in a hotel room and eating way too much room service food, attending a few concerts including the Dangerous Toys reunion concert since Jason is a friend of ours... and other random stuff. Hopefully I could fit in a few naps and thrifting trips.

This is just divine. Love the beautiful combination of ornate brocade and luscious velvet, a textural feast for the senses. X

Your pashmina is one of the most gorgeous ones I have seen in a long time and funny, but I have been experiencing the same kind of emotions lately. In the end I just decided to let it go and wear whatever I feel like, no matter what the blogging world might like to see me in..
ReplyDeleteThat gold dipped leaf is gorgeous, I actually thought it is a real maple leaf and through some unknown trick of light Tim has made it look the way it does. :)
Love from Toronto, Canada
tashrin: it IS a real leaf...or was...at some point. now it's sitting prettily in my jewelry box until I find a chain for it!
ReplyDeleteomg so beautiful

ReplyDeleteand as far as posting goes, you look great no matter what you wear and you are always stylish, so don't let others bring you down!

GLAMOROUS is an excellent word and it certainly fits. You look great! Dress for you, not for your readers. Anyone checking in regularly obviously thinks you have great style, i know I do. http://idontwearjeans.blogspot.com/
ReplyDeleteYou are proving so much my point about you wearing lots of patterns and textures really well. That dress has such an interesting texture and neckline. I've always wanted a necklace of small twigs dipped in gold, the leaf is so pretty.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with finals. I am currently procrastinating on schoolwork myself. Argh what we do to survive college.
I think it's just gorgeous! You look very lovely. Dress for yourself. Don't let trends dictate what you love or what you wear. Be your fabulous self.
ReplyDeleteI adore this outfit post! And your pull from blogging is so understandable. We love your spirit and that's what we want to see!
ReplyDeleteamazing leaf pendant, can't believe a dress that good was $8. deal!
ReplyDeleteYou look so beautiful! So glam. Love the dress and shawl! :)
ReplyDeleteSo glamorous and elegant :)
ReplyDeletethat dress is gorgeous, what a lovely find you had! i have a slight obsession with collarbones so i know what you mean about having bare collarbones!
ReplyDelete& i also understand your issue with the blogging.. i have that sometimes soon & then i have to pull myself into line & go hey girl this is for you to have an outlet!
also that pendant is so gorgeous & gold.
&&& i havent seen little miss sunshine ive heard its awesome tho, have you seen it?x
you're style has inspired me to take risks with my own clothes. it's made getting dressed daily really fun. i'm glad i came upon your blog. =)

I love this outfit!

Gorgeous prints. And the burgundy reds are my favorite! Great finding ;)
ReplyDeleteIt does get that way sometimes, writing for an audience instead of for the self. Where do you draw the line, and how do you stay true to your original mission?
ReplyDeleteI love this dress, and I'm so glad you bought it. It has this old world glamour about it. It is very glam and diva in the way that same stylish way you always seem to evoke and effuse, but it's got this old world feel to it.
That leaf is perfect. I'd like to get one myself... but I just don't know where to find such things. I'm not very good with vintage shopping.

I love how you mix patterns and textures-this outfit is stunning and elegant. Write and wear what makes you happy-that's why we love your blog and outfits!!!
ReplyDeletereally nice outfit! really original...

I quite like your amazing find. It looks simply amazingly elegant and glamorous. The leaf is so beautiful too.
ReplyDeleteIn other words, blog for your creative soul! It's always best to not blog until you feel inspired or feel like it is something you want to show. Trends, also, are incredibly overrated. I adore the way you dress and I'm glad I can come to your blog and see something a bit different than every other blog.
The combination of colors and textures is so lush! LOVE.
ReplyDeleteAnd I hate those "this outfit isn't good enough for the blog days." After a certain point, I feel like f*ck it, I'll post what I want.
