thrifted new york & co. dress, asos blazer, presa bag via overstock.com, forever 21 shoes, vintage necklace as bracelet, forever 21 earrings
Outfit details: This new purse is actually a gigantic tote bag, a much-needed upgrade from my beaten, 3-yr-old UT bookstore canvas tote for carrying my textbooks/research notebooks around campus (carrying a tote + purse = hassle). However, for the sake of the pictures I experimented with carrying it as a fold-over clutch... it worked better than hoped and I might add a buckle or some other sort of fastener to make the tote convertible. Teal/turquoise is actually my favorite color (which is why a lot of my usernames are "turquoisepassion"...ex: chictopia). The reason I don't own that many pieces of clothing that are in this color is because I've become quite picky about the exact shade; it can't be too blue, too light, too bright, etc. Thus I was a bit nervous about ordering this bag online buuuut now I'm totally glad I took the dive! I've been so good lately and haven't shopped anywhere but thrift/f21 but I still felt guilty for getting something that's almost $100. The price was way too much for my budget but I saw it on other sites for over $300 and I really needed a stylish tote bag for school and traveling...well I guess not NEED but that beaten UT bag was getting ridiculously dirty and hard to launder.
Most played on ipod this week (someone asked again via email so now I'm going to make it regular): "Hate Worldwide" -Slayer (thrash metal), "Break the Spell"- Broken Teeth (classic rock), "Airplanes"- B.o.B. (R&B/Rap), "Dirty Little Girl" (modern rock), "My Little Hell"- Underride (modern rock), "The Ghost Inside" - Broken Bells (indie), "Made For You" -OneRepublic (pop/alternative). Anyone have good music suggestions? I haven't heard much pop, rap, syn-pop or electronica that's impressed me lately. I keep playing the same 20 songs over and over the past week or so. RANDOM: I saw a Pentagram tshirt and it totally made me think of Hal since it's her husband's band. Wrong shirt size :(
Personal update: I got to sit down with Tamanna of French Leaving last night over some avocado+cheese enchiladas and talked about blogging, my obscenely massive collection of indian music (350+ bollywood songs, 70+ bhangra songs, 30+ indian pop songs...), food/cooking, and future career plans. Today, I somehow got "negative" amounts of DNA in my sample according to the nanodrop machine (well, within the margin of error, I actually got ZERO but it wasfunny disheartening to see that I somehow managed to produce a "negative" amount after 12 hrs of hard work). I also finally tried Five Guys Burgers for dinner with Tim. Seeing how I've been to over 30 and counting places in Austin for burgers, it was weird I still haven't been to a burger joint not even a mile away from my apartment. Anyway, for local Austin burger fans: go try it if you love burgers, but don't get more than one serving of fries unless you have over 3 people. I got about 4-5 measuring cups full of french fries with my burger; seriously one of the rare times I didn't finish my fries! So all in all, it was a perfectly stereotypical college day... research failure with a gigantic side of fries. What else is new around here?

ReplyDeleteHah, I never expected to see anyone on a fashion blog mention a nanodrop. They're not always accurate for protein, but they're usually right on DNA unless they were zeroed wrong, so sorry for your DNA purification failure. That's research for ya. I have a BS in biochemistry and a Ph.D. in biomedical sciences, so I know a little something about the frustrations of lab work. My blog name is even a nerdy allusion to cell culture. Glad I'm not the only well-dressed nerd around :-)
ReplyDeleteLove this!

Ahhh my god, I totally have that same canvas tote from the co-op. The free one that zips at the top, right? I use it as a gym bag most of the time.
ReplyDeleteSadly I don't go to UT anymore though. I lived in austin for 2 years, but I've moved since starting my blog. I should really change that. But I live close enough that I'd love to go to any blogger lunches you may have.
Also thank you for the comment on my blogger sketches. Its ironic, because I actually have a few sketches of you that I've been working on a post for. I'll let you know when I post them :]
haha.....yes, i ALWASY finish my fries, too...probs not a good thing! ;)

ReplyDeleteLove this blazer of yours, it's fantabulous! And the contrast blue is sooo ahhmazing! :)
Keep up the good work, honey! Always.
I just love your smile
ReplyDeleteI need a good pair of shorts to rock, honestly.
ReplyDeleteI feel like that is the case with me as well. Days are kind of a let down with massive amounts of good eats in the evening.
At least it was yesterday. Felt like crying at night and then made myself a massive vat of potato leek and onion soup.
